The Engineering Department is the technical backbone of Hector Barns-Field Ltd. It handles every aspect of engineering across our projects — from initial concept design reviews through detailed engineering, construction method statements, and on-site technical support. Our engineers produce structural calculations, review shop drawings, coordinate MEP interfaces, perform geotechnical assessments, and manage BIM models for clash detection and coordination. The department enforces compliance with British Standards (BS), Eurocodes, and Nigerian Building Code requirements across all engineering outputs. Every method statement, design change, and technical query is logged, reviewed, and approved through a formal document control process.

Project Controls & Quantity Surveying

Project Controls & Quantity Surveying is responsible for the commercial and scheduling discipline of every construction contract. The department prepares detailed Bills of Quantities, manages cost plans, tracks Earned Value against baseline programmes, administers contracts (JCT, FIDIC, NEC), processes variation orders, evaluates interim payment certificates, and produces final accounts. Schedulers maintain CPM networks in Primavera P6 and MS Project, providing weekly progress updates and critical path analysis. The department also manages procurement workflows, ensuring that materials and subcontractor packages are tendered, evaluated, and awarded transparently.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

The HSE Department enforces a zero-harm culture across every Hector Barns-Field site. Our HSE officers conduct daily Tool Box Talks, site inspections, and hazard identification walks. The department manages Permit-to-Work systems for high-risk activities (working at height, confined spaces, hot works, excavations), maintains emergency response plans, and conducts regular drills. All incidents and near-misses are investigated using root cause analysis, with corrective actions tracked to closure. Environmental management includes waste segregation, dust and noise monitoring, spill prevention, and compliance with NESREA regulations. HSE officers hold NEBOSH IGC and OSHA 30-Hour certifications as minimum requirements.

Operations & Site Logistics

Operations & Logistics Team

Site mobilization, equipment deployment, labour management, material handling, and logistics coordination.

Department detail

Operations & Site Logistics manages the physical execution of construction work. This department coordinates site mobilization and demobilization, deploys and maintains construction equipment (excavators, cranes, concrete pumps, compactors), manages direct and subcontracted labour crews, and handles material receiving, storage, and distribution. The team ensures that the right resources are available at the right time to maintain programme momentum. Warehouse management follows inventory control procedures with documented receiving and issuing processes. Equipment maintenance schedules are tracked to prevent downtime, and daily plant inspection checklists are completed before operation.

Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)

QA/QC Manager

Inspection, testing, materials verification, non-conformance tracking, and continuous improvement.

The QA/QC Department ensures that every element of construction meets or exceeds specified standards. Inspectors verify workmanship at defined hold points before any cover-up or progression to the next phase. Concrete quality is verified through slump tests, cube casting, and third-party laboratory crush testing at 7 and 28 days. Structural steel connections are inspected using visual, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic testing methods as required. Material submittals — including mill test certificates, certificates of conformity, and material safety data sheets — are reviewed against project specifications. Non-conformance reports (NCRs) trigger immediate stop-work notices, root cause analysis, and documented corrective actions before work resumes.

Finance & Corporate Administration

Precious Nguumbur Atsevah (ACCA)
