Construction site safety cannot be achieved through policy documents alone. It requires visible leadership, daily reinforcement, and a culture where every worker feels empowered to stop unsafe work. At Hector Barns-Field, we operate on a simple principle: "Zero Harm is the Only Standard."

Every work day begins with a mandatory Tool Box Talk (TBT), covering the specific hazards and controls relevant to that day's activities. Our HSE officers have absolute authority to halt site activities if conditions pose any risk to life or health — and that authority is backed unconditionally by management.

Beyond daily safety, we maintain a comprehensive HSE Management System that includes hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA), permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities, emergency response plans, and monthly safety statistics reporting.

Our target is not just regulatory compliance — it is operational excellence in safety. We measure safety performance through leading indicators (near-miss reports, safety observations, training hours) rather than just lagging indicators (lost-time injuries). This proactive approach ensures that safety issues are identified and addressed before they result in incidents.
